Northumberland County also offers a child care fee subsidy for families in need, to help pay some or all of the cost of child care.

Building tomorrow's care together

Each year, the Northumberland County Early Years team reviews the status of child care waitlists in Northumberland, and uses this information to inform the delivery of services. Ongoing monitoring of these waitlists has indicated that the demand for local child care services continues to be on the rise. This demand is also being impacted by the widespread workforce crisis that the Early Years sector is currently experiencing across the province.

With limited resources available and high demand throughout our community, collecting data on the needs of local families will help ensure our resources are directed to areas of greatest need, and that our services are tailored to suit families in our community as we plan for future service delivery.

To obtain this data, the Northumberland County Early Years team is conducting another child care needs assessment survey with Northumberland families, in follow up to the first assessment conducted at the beginning of 2022.

As local child care services evolve and the priorities of local families continue to change each year, we want to check in again with families and soon-to-be-parents, to ensure our current and future child care services continue to address the needs of our community.

This data will be used to help inform Northumberland County's Early Years Business Plan as well as our 5-year Early Year Learning and Child Care Service System Plan.
